Redheaded dacnis

Red-headed dacnis is a species of birds from the tanager family. Birds live on plantations, in subtropical and tropical low-lying and mountainous moist and highly degraded forests, at an altitude of 0-1650 meters above sea level. Body length 12 cm, weight about 15 grams.

There are two subspecies:

  • Dacnis venusta Lawrence, 1862 - on the slopes of the mountains from the provinces of Alajuela and Guanacaste Costa Rica south to the Panama Canal Zone in central Panama,
  • Dacnis venusta fuliginata Bangs, 1908 - from the Darien province of eastern Panama eastward through the northern western and central Andes of Colombia - to the Cauca Valley and the Magdalena River Valley in Antioquia, and further south to the Pacific coast and the Andes slopes of northwestern Ecuador - to the Pichincha province.
